Jake Eye was one of Windham High School’s best athletes. Jake knew only how to play hard, regardless of anything else, including pain. He truly loves sports, loves the game, and loves the competition. He was a superb athlete and was always a leader. Jake played Varsity Baseball, Varsity Football and Varsity Basketball all four years of high school. The following are some of the achievements Jake Eye earned in high school: All Portage County Four Years in Baseball Three Years in Football Two Years in Basketball PCL Player of the Year Junior and Senior Years in Football Junior and Senior Years in Baseball All District Awards Three Years in Baseball One Year in Basketball All State Awards Two Years in Football Akron Touchdown Club Two Years Jake led the Portage County League in rushing his Junior year with 1,246 yards and 14 touchdowns. Jake was drafted his Senior year by the Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball Team in the 17th round as a pitcher. He decided to go to Ohio University on a full scholarship to pitch and bat for the Ohio University Bobcats Baseball Team. In Jake’s Freshman year at Ohio University he received the Pitcher of the Year award. His Junior year at Ohio University he was drafted by the Houston Astros Baseball Team in the 19th round as a pitcher. He decided to finish his Senior Year at Ohio University and the Bobcats were the regular season MAC Tournament Champs and went on to the Regional Tournament in Oklahoma. Jake was awarded the MAC Batting Champion Award and was the 1st Team MAC Player his Junior and Senior years at Ohio University. At one point he was 4th in the country in hitting. At the end of his Senior year at Ohio University, Jake was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 6th round as a pitcher.

Clair Liddle was an athlete who lettered numerous years, was an outstanding lineman and was on the basketball team that has the longest record of no defeats in school history. The record was tied in 1987, but was never broken. Lettered in Football 1949-1952 Captain of the Football Team 1951-52 All-County Guard in Football 1952 Lettered in Basketball 1949-1952 Lettered in Baseball 1950-1951 After school, Clair was a member of the Booster Club, served as President of 100 Club, helped build the new bleachers for the high school football field, and served on the football “Chain Gang” for years. The Ed Liddle Football Field was named after Clair’s father.
Coach Michael Chaffee has been a respected and dedicated coach for Windham High School for many years. He has coached Volleyball, Basketball, and Track. His pride, enthusiasm, competitive spirit, and sincere love of the game, have been attributes many of his athletes wished to emulate. Coach Chaffee has always embraced fair play. He is a true teaching coach. (Note: This information was written in 1999 at the time Mr. Chaffee was inducted into the HOF. He continues to coach Windham today.)
